Priscilla's profile

Shalom dear readers, my name is Priscilla Tan Mei Ee. I was born on the 13th of April 1990 which makes me 21 years old this year. I am from Malaysia and I was born and raised in Melaka. I am the eldest in the family and so I have to take care of both my younger sister and make my parents proud. I am Chinese and I’m a Christian. My occupation at the moment is a student of psychology in Help University, which means that I battle with managing time for my assignments and managing time for relaxations.

My interests can be divided into two main categories. The linguistic category and the artistic category. In the linguistic category, there is reading and writing. I love to read fiction books compare to non-fiction books. Most of the fiction books I choose to read leans towards mystery solving and fantasy. I find books based on mysteries very engaging and I would try solving the mysteries as I read on. I have a vivid imagination and this enables me to create and picture characters and scenes in books based on fantasy, and I could dive in and experience the words written in fantasy book. My favorite books are Sherlock Holmes, Harry Potter and books written by Agatha Christie.

The music team and I performing for a Christian Wedding
Because of my love towards reading, this spurs me to write my own stories as well. I love writing happy ending in my stories and most of my stories are fantasy based so it is very descriptive. I also write poems. I published some of my stories and poems in my school magazine and one of my stories was chosen to be the script of my school’s English Drama Club and we won the best script in competition and got second place in the competition.
In the artistic category, there is music, dancing and drama. I can play the piano and guitar, and I can also sing adequately. I am in the music team in our church. I love music because it is an excellent way to express emotions and it is a very good way to relax.

Christmas Dance 2008

I love to dance contemporary dances and the occasionally hip hop and tambourine dances. In dancing, it is so easy to just forget about your troubles and just lose yourself in the music and movement. I have performed many times in my church during Christmas, Easter and Good Friday.

English Drama Competition 2008, Champion in the state of Melaka

Drama was an interest that I pick up during high school. I was chosen to be one of the members in the English Drama Club and I find it enjoyable to act and to portray different characters. We once represented the states of Melaka in the national competition but unfortunately we did not win.
I, like everyone else, love to day dream about things I would want in the future that are most probably not going to happen. However, there are certain dreams that I am determine to see come through in the future. One of those dreams is to be well off and comfortable in life. I do not wish to be too rich because I think that would make me take things for granted and I would be less grateful for things that I have. I would be content to have enough money to support my family and my parents and to indulge myself occasionally in things that I love.
Another dream of mine is to be successful in life before I’m 40 years old. I plan on being a well known and successful Child Psychologist or Counselor and having my own practice so that I can be in charge of my own career. I plan to stop working after 40 years old and travel the world to give talks and seminars to those who need them.
I believe it is every woman’s dream to one day have our own family and I’m not excluded in this dream. I wish to one day have a good husband and have children with the person I love. I do not want to be alone when I’m older. I want someone to spend time with, someone to talk to and someone to share my experience in life. There is no time frame for this dream as I believe that you will meet that special someone when you meet them and not a moment sooner or later.
Last but not least, I aspire to be a successful Child Psychologist or a Counselor for children and teenagers. The reason why I have this ambition is because I see that many children and teenagers are facing stress, pressure and high expectations from their family and society. I have seen many people that I known not able to carry this kind of burden on their shoulder for long and eventually crack under the weight of the pressure. Most children and teenagers nowadays also have parents that are busy working and do not have time to spend with their children and so they lack the bonds and affection of families. I want to be the one person whom the children and teenager can turn to and trust. I want them to be able to express their feeling in a more positive and constructive way instead of the destructive way like taking drugs, cutting themselves, running away from home, drinking or committing suicide. I want them to know that there is someone who cares and that someone does not mind listening to them rant and rave and will just be there for them. I want to teach and guide these children and teens and to let them see that there are more to life. With God’s grace I might be able to save these troubled children and teens and enable them to live life to their fullest.

Apri's profile

Hello, everybody….!
First, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Aprisari, but I prefer people calling me Apri. It is obviously no secret that I was born in April. I come from the third largest city in Indonesia which is Medan. Medan also happens to be famous for the food. Thus, automatically, I have high interest of food in my blood. Besides food, I happen to have high interest in people too which is why I am a psychology student currently in Help University College in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Since I was 14, I have always wanted to be a psychologist. I was inspired by the novel written by Jodi Picoult which has the elements of psychology. Only lately, I found myself wanting to be a specialist which is to be a clinical psychologist as this particular field really caught my interest. And if I am given the opportunity, I would really love to work in a psychological society. My wish is to be able to help people with mental health issues and to help them solve the problems they face. It hurts me when people’s lives are ripping apart because they think there is no way out for their problems, which is why I would like to improve their quality life.

snap it during ARUPS conference :)

I would like to believe that one day I could be a good clinical psychologist as I have what it takes to be one. I can put myself in someone’s shoes and this way I could understand people better. I tend to put others’ interests before me if they need me. I am also a good listener because I just love to listen. It amazes me of what I can gain and learn by listening. Moreover, I know how it feels like when no one seems to understand or listen to me when I am troubled. That’s why I want to be there for people who need to be listened. Besides that, I am a person who respects differences. So, I hardly ever judge people by their statements. I am also a person who is willing to learn anything and anyone new. I hope this characteristic helps me in my future career. Furthermore, I am in love with psychology as it is the answer to any human’s psychological and mental problems. Thus, as it is an intrinsic motivation of mine to learn psychology, I believe I could be good in what I want to be.
In the future, if I were to have patients on my own, I would use my ability to treat them seriously. I would do everything I can in my power to help them. As they have trusted me with their problems, the least I could do is to do my job wholeheartedly.

As for my interest, I love travelling. One day, I would like to try the ‘work and travel’ program. Hopefully, through it, I could gain a lot of precious experience and could learn as much culture as possible which will be very helpful for me to understand people better. The more I understand their culture, belief, or values, the more I could help them solving their problems. Besides travelling, I love watching movies and reading books too. From those activities, I actually learn a lot of values in life which gives me reasons why I would want to be a psychologist in the first place.
As for my dreams, I have silly ones. Still, I hope they would come true one day. I would like to have a romantic dinner with my true love in the restaurant on top of Eiffel Tower, ride a Gondola together in Venice, and shop till drop in New York. If possible, I wish to meet Jodi Picoult, my favourite author and the one who inspired me of psychology, have her autograph and have a picture together with her.
That is all from me now. Thank you everybody for reading my profile…!

Wenqi Teoh's Profile

I am a girl who has dream and goal; I desire to have an extraordinary life and lives with no worries in my future. I am from an average family, but I do not own average education. My parents are very much concern about my education. They think that having knowledge is far more important than just having the unrealistic wealth.

The above is the picture that I took with my family when we went to Beijing on February this year.
My name is Teoh Wen Qi, turning 21 years old on December 26th. My hometown is Johor Bahru, a city that is just a few kilometres away from Singapore. I am Chinese and proudly tell people that I am Chinese educated. I think that it is a bit shamed and pity if a Chinese does not know how to speak his or her own language. However, sometimes I wish I were English educated and I would have had a better communication skill in English. I am still proud of my language and I am able to write and communicate fairly fair in English as well. I have a lot of dreams and goals; there are big one and small one. I try to motivate myself every seconds to keep me awake of pursuing my dreams. I hope that I would eventually achieve what I expect to achieve.

I started reading motivational and inspirations books when the first time I went to my friend’s aunt house. She reads all sort kinds of books every day before she get to sleep. Apart from that, she also introduced several books to us as those books are inspirational books. Started from that day, I love to read and buy different self-help and motivational books.

One of my favourite books is “How to get from where you are to where you want to be?” which written by Jack Canfield. By reading motivational books, I would be able to keep on the right track towards my dreams and goals. There are 25 principles of success that lead me to visualize and pursuit my goal and vision. In pertaining to that, the book would also unleash my mind and the way I set my goal.

Dreams are considered a vague and unclear goal that people would want to archive in one day. . An interesting quote from E.J. Bartek that I would like to share when we talk about dreams and goals is “Having a goal is a state of happiness.” This is apparently very true as there would have not any inducement that made them live with purpose. It is very important to know that how many people have eventually achieved their dreams at the end. Hence, we should not only have a series of great dreams but we have to transform our dreams into a goal with deadline People work better and more efficient if they were given limited time to accomplish the work. Undoubted, the concept just perfectly apply on each individual to working on their goals or dreams. I like to have great and enormous dreams as well as goals for my future. From my point of views, the goals that I have set would make me keep on track of what I am doing and behaving now.

My goal that I have now is I would like to be a Buzan Licensed Instructor in one day. However, this is not only a dream but I have set a deadline for this goal which I wish I can get the license before I graduated from bachelor degree. I am passionate in doing mind mapping and I would really want to share and teach this ultimate thinking tool to people around me. I am glad that I had the chance to meet the inventor of Mind-map, Tony Buzan on March of this year. His gave an inspiring seminar and benefits me a lot.

In addition, I would also like to pursue my studies on the field of educational psychology. However, I know that I would not have the financial abilities to study master overseas. Therefore, I must buck up and work harder in order to get good grades to be qualified to apply scholarships for my master programme. By having a clear goal, I have the sense of direction and motivations to do everything that are meaningful for me. I really appreciate that I could have the clear idea of what I want and never confused by the others.

This is one of the Mind map that I have drawn, I use Mind map on my study and a lot of other usage such as trip planning, event organising and a great tool for brainstorming.

As the saying goes, “success is 1% aspiration and 99% perspiration.” Although perspiration seems playing a heavy part than aspiration, success would have not happened if there were no aspiration. One of my aspiration was came from a secondary school friend, she gave me a lot of enlighten on what should I do in future. When we were studying together, we talked about our plan and our future. I was not sure about what I was going to study at that time. However, through the way she talked to me, she inspired me about the important of choosing a subject that I really passionate on. After I had been exploring all different kinds of pathway, I finally decided to pursue degree in psychology as my undergraduate education. My aspirations are not only to graduate from degree in psychology but also be able to get into master program in educational psychology. Hence, in order to achieve my aspiration, I have to put more effort on my studies and explore as much knowledge as I can when I am studying my degree in these three years.

Christine's profile

Boujour! I am Christine,  going to be 20 years old this year. Well, I was born in 19th June 1991 in my hometown Ipoh, Malaysia. Everything I do, I am trying to make my life becoming extraordinary. Not only books, not only exams, not only shops, we have a purpose in life ever since we are born and this must be a unique one. Many things interest me, I like reading books since preschool, until today I have read a variety of books such as detective series, self-help books and novels which about life and death:  Tuesday With Morrie, Five People You Meet In Heaven and One More Day by Mitch Albom.
<Five People you meet in heaven> by Mitch Albom, 2004

Apart from that, I enjoy in music as well, not only in listening to music, singing is also my other favorite thing that I usually do all the time. Berthold Auerbach once said, ‘music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life (n.d.). For me, music is unique. I am a choir member of my church, hence I realize how amazing music can be when it is being played. It can be touching, joyous, harmony and so forth.
playing guitar is also my favorite thing to do:)

Besides, I am a person who always likes to listen to people especially when they share their experience, plight or worries and etc. I can be a good listener by listening to others with patience. Meanwhile, I can talk with confidence as well. I took part in many public speaking competitions before within my state and my country. The public speaking competitions I participated involved different language skills hence I can speak English, Chinese and Malay fluently.

Apart from that, I am an active person in schools and colleges. I took part in many activities for instance stage performances like singing, dancing, drama and so forth. I held as a Vice president in my clubs in schools and university thus I have experience in planning and organizing events and activities. I believe the events in my life have sharpen my skills, broaden my knowledge, made me to become more mature and think in different angles, which are really significant in the rest of my life.

A capella performance for a charity night!

For my dream, I wish one day I could go to England to watch the live match of my favorite football team, Liverpool and can take photo with all the Liverpool players. Besides, I wish to involve in performing arts as well 'cause I enjoy in acting, filming, singing and dancing. I wish one day after I complete or during my study of PhD in United States, I could use my knowledge and experience to help those who are in need, especially those suffered from mental illnesses. I wish I could be a child clinical psychologist. Actually, I help taking care kids in my church during Sunday school and I notice that children with autism, ADHD and so forth are getting common nowadays but children like this are really talented. For example I came across a child with autism and I realized he can actually paint well than other children with only 5 years old. I wish I could help children like this by not only recovering from the disorders but can use their talents wisely in different way.
However, before I took the path of psychology, I have no idea what to do after my graduation and I did not have direction in my future. Every time I read the news of natural disaster in several countries, my sympathy urged me to help the victims in that disaster area. One day, I read an article about sending psychologists to the disaster area to help the victims especially by recovering them from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Meanwhile, I read about serving God by giving a helping hand to the weak. Then I realized this would be a great opportunity and I wanted to make it as my dream by being a psychologist to help those who are in need.
